Central and Maryvale music students will get first-hand insight into the music industry from professionals at a Career Day, brought to Phoenix by the GRAMMY Foundation in conjunction with the Ford Motor Company Fund. Students will hear from panelists, and ask questions about the recording industry, technology, performing and producing. It is part of the foundation’s efforts to enhance educational opportunities. Central and Maryvale were two of 31 national finalists for a GRAMMY Foundation grant.
Music professionals, 80 Central students, 100-150 Maryvale students, music teachers. Among the panelists are Larry Batiste, a producer, vocalist, songwriter, publisher instrumentalist and arranger, and Manny Marroquin, an enginner and four-time GRAMMY winner. Batiste has written and published over 300 songs and has worked with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Joe Satriani, Dweezil Zappa, Keyshia Cole and Al Jarreau. Marroquin has worked with Usher, Alicia Keyes; Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez and John Legend.

Phoenix Sister Cities Young Artists Competition
Phoenix Sister Cities invites residents of Phoenix ages 13 through 18 to enter the 2007 International Young Artists Competition. The purpose of the International Young Artists Competition is to encourage youth to interpret the following international theme in their original artwork.
Deadline February 13, 2009
The theme for 2008 is:
• All submissions will be displayed during the month of March and awards will be given out at an awards ceremony. After being exhibited in Phoenix, the winning artwork will be entered into the Sister Cities International Young Artist
Competition where they are eligible to win more prizes.
MEDIUM & SPECIFICATIONS
• Only two-dimensional artwork, no larger than 24” x 30” (60 cm x 75 cm), is accepted.
• Watercolor, oils, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal, photography, computer generated art, and two dimensional mixed media, are all acceptable media.
• Do not submit framed artwork.
• Entries must be mounted on foam core or matted, so they are firm enough to stand on an easel.

BEN'S HALLOWEEN BASH
The Clarendon Hotel, Lobby Bar, Rooftop Lounge, and Pool Area

For those of you who don't know, Ben's Halloween party is notorious for being one of the best parties of the year in Phoenix. We will be featuring live DJs, passed hors d'oeuvres, Tricks and Treats, classic horror films projected on the building, live entertainment, and a poolside costume contest at 11pm on The Clarendon's famous catwalk! Grand Prize is a FREE weekend at The Clarendon for everyone in the winning group, and great prizes for runners up. $10 of all paid cover charges will go directly to the Arizona Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence - www.azsisters.org - and will benefit the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS.

Hidden House Cocktail Lounge
The Hidden House is neither hidden nor house, and looks more like a renovated strip mall. It comes complete with multiple big screen TVs that blare whatever ‘big game’ is happening that night. The Hidden House is not big on looks, but customers are too busy playing pool or rocking out to their jukebox to notice.
With sports in the air, the Hidden House crowd would be at home in any Midwestern basement bar or Big 10 college town. With more bar seating than booths, divers will rub elbows with students, dads and cougars while enjoying the all-day happy hours. If you stay till evening and become numb enough, you can head next door to the side of the Hidden House where DJs spin dance tunes and host karaoke.
